Each of us has a goal, or dream, that is so big that we are afraid to share it with anyone.
Will they make fun of us? Or tell us it’s impossible? Whatever the reason, it’s often fear that causes these dreams to wither up and die.
The good news? It doesn’t have to be that way. With the help of this simple tool, you can begin making your biggest goal a reality.

The Exposure Ladder
The Exposure Ladder is a tool I use with every one of my clients to help them recognize a path to achieving their dreams or goals. It’s pretty simple to use, just be sure that the goal you have is big enough to motivate you to do the work! **hint** If your goal doesn’t scare you, it probably isn’t big enough!
Step 1: Spend some time daydreaming about your dream or goal. How will it feel to achieve your dream? What will life be like when that happens? Who are the people you will celebrate with when your dream becomes a reality?
If you feel energized and motivated after your daydream session, you are ready for step 2. If not, don’t get discouraged! Simply dream BIGGER!
Step 2: An exposure ladder starts with writing down your big, scary, amazing dream and then brainstorming smaller steps that will help you get there (define your “baby steps” with the idea that each one of these steps will move you to a higher rung on the ladder). Notice the numbers to the left of my ladder. I find it helpful to rate the “scariness” factor of each step on a scale of 1-10. 10 being the scariest step of all, fulfilling your dream. If your “baby steps” get harder as you go up your ladder, you are doing it right!
Check out the exposure ladder I used for preparing myself as I worked towards the launch of Girl Reimagined. At the top, you will see my dream:

Gulp. That felt like a big dream, and a TON of responsibility. But the process wasn’t as terrifying as you’d think. By the time I got to the 5th rung of my ladder, my confidence was at an all time high because I’d WORKED FOR IT! I gained the experience necessary to make the final step actually seem do-able. And just the fact that you are reading this blog post means that it really is a dream turned reality.
If you asked me in 2010 if I would be taking this step in 2016, I would have called you crazy. But with some planning, and hard work I truly began to believe that I am the right woman for the job.
What’s your dream?
Don’t be afraid to dream it up, and then shout it from the rooftops. If you’d like a little help along the way, I’ll match you up with one of our amazing coaches and she will guide you through this process step-by-step. Whatever your dream, I know you can do it!
