I consider myself a crusader of the mother/daughter relationship. Perhaps it’s because I know the irreplaceable roll that mom’s play in their teenage daughters lives, or maybe its because my own mom is one of my most cherished people. It is a goal of mine to help mom’s find common ground with their teens and continue to grow strong, life-long relationships.
I’ve been coaching mom’s and daughters for almost two years now, and the results have been remarkable. The natural next step was to try a full retreat. First, I needed to find the right location. When I stumbled upon the Moondance B&B on Lake Whatcom, I knew it was the perfect place. Next, I needed to find participants. I wanted the retreat to be small and intimate, so I limited enrollment to just a few mom/daughter pairs.
The weekend was packed full of fun activities. On Friday, we visited Camp Firwood to test their limits on the high ropes course followed by a loving outdoor dining experience on the lake. Saturday, the mom’s and daughters experienced beach yoga led by Michelle from 3 Oms Studio. The setting (and the weather) couldn’t have been more perfect.
It was beautiful to watch participants open up and share their thoughts and feelings with each other. There were some tense moments, and some truly impactful realizations made over the course of the weekend. Laughter was shared, and tears were shed. More importantly, hearts were opened. I left the retreat feeling that my work might be the most important work in the world and what an amazing feeling that is!
